Kass is a Cafe Rio fan, and I usually opt for Costa Vida. So we decided to compare the two side-by-side. Going to both restaurants, we ordered a sweet pork burrito, horchata, and tres leches.
Sweet pork burrito:
The two restaurants have big burritos to fill us up, but the Cafe Rio burrito definitely has more meat, which made it more flavorful. Cafe Rio win (unless you want more rice and beans than meat).
Horchata:
Cafe Rio horchata is creamier according to Kass, but I like the Costa Vida horchata better because it has more cinnamon. Creaminess is more important to Kass while cinnamon is more important to me, so this point is a tie.
Tres leches cake:
The Costa Vida tres leches was more beautiful than the Cafe Rio tres leches, but the Cafe Rio one was sweeter and had more melt-in-your-mouth-ness. Part of the issue is that Costa Vida chose to use unripe mango with the cake while Cafe Rio used strawberries. I don't even like strawberries and I whole-heartedly support this Cafe Rio win.
Based on these criteria, Cafe Rio is the winner of best food. Though I still stop by Costa Vida to buy horchata.
